SacCT/LMS replacement update

http://www.csus.edu/nextgenlms

The field of replacement products has been narrowed to either Infrastructure Canvas or D2L Brightspace. A report on why Blackboard and Moodle were eliminated from contention is available here: http://www.csus.edu/nextgenlms/documents/lmsevaldownselectreport.pdf . “Sandbox” testing has concluded, and the review committee will provide results soon. An official recommendation will be made in May. If you want to watch the videos of the vendor presentation demos, you can find those here: http://www.csus.edu/nextgenlms/index_demophase.html . Please encourage faculty/staff to leave feedback by emailing nextgenlms@csus.edu The timeline for the new system to come online is Spring and Fall of 2018.

Third-party cloud data storage policy

The campus does not have a policy on use of third-party cloud data storage services such as Google Drive/Docs, Dropbox, or MS OneDrive. The only guidance available from the ISO at this time is to be cautious of IP rights and the sensitivity level of data being stored in the cloud.

All services have approximately the same IP rights allowances.

Google and Dropbox are NOT suitable for FERPA data. Microsoft services should be suitable for FERPA data, as we have an institutional contract with them.
